Random Glimpses

What Was That I Said? And Star Wars Spoilers.

Almost nice weather.

“Didn’t they promise more posts? And pictures? And more and merrier?” We did, indeed. The thing is – everything has become so normal for us and we wouldn’t want to bore you. You go ahead and write a blog when nothing special ever happens, see how far you get. 🙂 But yes, of course, the seasons are a-changing, the wind has turned and turned again, warm sleet has transformed into cold rain, the sunsets come later and later every day, and – this is a big deal – I rode my bike home a few days ago and didn’t even need to turn on my lights!

Let Me Poop Here

That’s a big deal for two reasons. It means that spring is upon us, and that it’s almost possible to get your body to restock on precious vitamin D. Because the sun, the lazy sod, is finally heaving her sorry butt higher up again, so it takes longer for her to drop out in the evenings. That’s a good thing. It also means that the worst project has come to an end. Really – THE WORST! Not in terms of hours. I’ve done my fair share of 80-hr-weeks before. Not in terms of the team. The team was great. The supervisor has been winning a load of awards for his work on Mad Max. But, oh, the client! And oh, the movie itself! Such a mindless, badly made film. Such lack of vision and direction. It was THE WORST. And now it’s over. And the sun is out. Life is good.

Or... not.

With that show out the door and new, really awesome-looking movies (and summer and parental visits and relaxation and Albert’s first steps) coming up, we were tempted to stay longer. But then we decided against it. Friends and family come first. Vancouver isn’t going anywhere, and we might just come back later. “Wait”, I hear you say, “weren’t you completely underwhelmed when you got there?” Yeah, kinda. But the city’s grown on us. It’s greener (and sea-er), the air is better, there’s a metric ton more impressive nature around, I can ride my bike to work, Albert loves his animals and charming strangers, which in turn is good for Agnieszka, because she’s usually happy when he is. That’s all pretty good. So… would you guys all pack up and move here, please? No? Oh well… we’ll just have to come back, then.

Oh Look, A Lens

“Wait”, I hear you say again. Am I talking too fast? Because it seems I have to wait a lot… “Albert’s first steps?” Yes, that’s right. He’s started walking. Rather late to the party, but I guess he wanted to wait until he was sure he could pull it off. It took him all of two days. Day one: “Mum! Dad! Come here and lend me a hand, will you?” Day two: “Mum! Dad! I’ll walk through the apartment by myself, but I won’t make a step out the door unless you hold me!” Day three: “Ready or not, world, here I come!” (I exaggerate, of course. His English isn’t really THAT good.)

Explorations

And just in time! Because I have a week off now, so we can go on a few day-trips, before we go and cross Vancouver Island on foot in April and explore Alaska in May. I have it all figured out: first, he’ll work on his footing. (On the day-trips.) Then, he’ll strengthen his back. (On the trek across Vancouver Island.) Then, he’ll learn how to handle a shotgun and defend himself against bears and wolves. (In Alaska.) Hm. On second thought, I might just wait a bit longer with all that. I mean, if we do it all now, what’s left for him later? Life would be terribly dull. Oh well. We’ll just move it back by a year or twenty…

The Boys

The days of carrying him around will become less frequent, it seems. That’s pretty good for our backs, pretty exciting for him, pretty bad for actually getting anywhere in any reasonable time, and pretty sad. All at once. Now we’ll have to wear several more layers of clothes again, without the little heat station strapped to our chests.

He looks perfectly dapper on his own, though.

A Break By The Bench

Have you watched the new Star Wars movie already? If you haven’t, but intend to, stop reading now, please. I’m serious. Because I’m going to spoil the one interesting plot twist it offers. Wouldn’t want to ruin it for you. And it’s not that important, really.

I mean it.

Really.

Okay, if you’re still here… you have been warned. Was it worth the dramatic build-up? No. I told you, it’s not that important. Anyway, I have a week off now, and we’ll hopefully get around a bit. The ideal itinerary would include Seattle, Whistler, Capilano Park and the Grouse. And that means that somebody will finally be let out of the box he’s been living in for months. (What? No! Of course we don’t keep Albert in a box! Where did that even come from?) Which is a bit of a dilemma, now that he’s officially dead. Rather ominous, isn’t it? Well, I can tell you that light sabers don’t really exist, they’re just a visual effect, so that wouldn’t have been able to kill him, right? And that drop… that was a stunt double. Come on, the guy is way too old to attempt this kind of thing himself. So, he’ll return soon…

The Return of Han Solo

🙂 Have a good Sunday! More soon!
