Borders, Boulders, Plans
Of all the things we wanted to tick off our list, we only got one done: went down to the border. Picture it like this: Albert, totally excited to be in a car for two hours, Agnieszka chilling out while he smiles and entertains himself, me completely relaxed behind the wheel, enjoying the open road and clear, concise traffic guidance around Vancouver. Nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy, is there?
Let’s just not talk about that trip, shall we? Suffice to say, it did not serve its purpose (which was to get new stamps in our passports). That is all anyone needs to know. But just for your amusement, picture it like this: Albert feeling sick in the car for almost five hours (round trip), Agnieszka fearing he might puke (and fearing even more that she might puke right back), me throwing a tantrum behind the wheel, cursing the traffic jam and lack of traffic guidance, the GPS, cars, people, the whole trip and everything else that went wrong in the evolution of the human being in the last couple million years. Nothing wrong with a bit of truth, eh?
We DID have nice weather, though. It’s been so long since I had proper walks with Albert, it was nice to get back into that habit. He invented a new game: he holds on to my legs until he’s sure he’s solidly standing on both feet, then lets go. I have to make a few steps, then wait until he catches me. It’s great. It also took him all of two visits on the playground to get the hang of (and a taste for) the slide. And he learned three new words this week: trah trah (crow), tööö (elephant) and hopp (when I pick him up). 🙂
As for the rest of our ambitious plans, we decided not to spend hard money for getting to Capilano or Grouse Mountain, because the weather got bad again. We can wait a few more weeks and then hopefully do it all in bright sunshine.
Thanks to way-more-active-than-I’ll-ever-be Erik, I went to the bouldering gym (after our trip – nothing says ‘rage’ like rare physical activities) and found out that you can’t expect muscles to stay in shape through seven years of inactivity. That should be all the information you need to motivate you. Off you go! 🙂
Laterz!
